ABOUT
Just One Starfish recruits and trains high school students from all Christian denominations to become mentors. The purpose of Just One Starfish is mission – we are about showing God’s love to at-risk students in our community through mentoring and encouraging.
Our Ministry
For Youth Workers
Just One Starfish pairs high school age Christian youth with at-risk upper elementary school students for one-on-one mentoring. Learn how you can empower your students to do relational ministry and make a positive impact on your community.
Parents and Teachers
Just One Starfish mentors apply and are recommended by their church youth ministry leaders as positive, encouraging role models. Both schools and younger "mentees" alike will benefit when mentors invest their time and compassion in one-on-one mentoring. Together, we can make a difference one life at a time.
Landry’s Story
Posted by Erin Jackson in Testimonials
When I first heard about Just One Starfish the first thing I thought was what a great experience this could be. I want to be involved in Christian counseling later in life and although Just One Starfish isn’t technically a church organization, I knew this would be a good opportunity for me to learn how to create a positive impact on someone else’s life. I have only met with my mentee twice, but I feel like I already know so much about her! Her name is Ielana, which she says means a gift from God, and she is in fifth grade, she likes to play sports and she loves Justin Bieber. She is so precious to me and I feel like God has placed her in my life for a reason. While going through this program my goal is to be the person Ielana can come to whenever she needs help with anything. I pray that I will be able to give her the attention she needs and that I can be the perfect role model for her. The definition of a mentor is an influential, wise, and trusted counselor. This is exactly what I’m hoping to accomplish in the upcoming weeks. I want to influence her in such a way that she always has a positive outlook on life and that she knows God will be there for her no matter what. I am praying that through this organization I will grow wiser and more experienced so that I can impact other people’s lives as well. I am so excited to see what the rest of the year holds and I am looking forward to learning from her as much as she learns from me.
